University Lodge #34 originated among a group of students, faculty, alumni, and staff at Memorial University of Newfoundland in late 2006. A group of Freemasons at the university - who later formed the founding nucleus of our lodge - had started to meet fairly regularly for drinks on Friday afternoons at Bitters, Memorial's graduate pub. Like the early Freemasons of England, who held their meetings in pubs, this group began to discuss their experiences in other lodges, with some of us periodically musing over drinks that our little group should form a lodge of our own.
University Lodge remains a relatively youthful lodge and has enabled young men in Newfoundland and elsewhere to get a firm foundation for their Masonic careers. We currently meet at Freemasons' Hall in Mount Pearl on the first Wednesday of each month. If you are interested in joining, please either contact us through this website or come out to Bitters Pub on Friday afternoons between 3:00-6:00. If you are a already a Freemason, you are more than welcome to attend our regular meetings. You will find a warm Masonic greeting and a hearty welcome in University Lodge.
Feel free to email us to apply for membership or to just say hello!
